The Swan & Old Elvet
The history of the word Elvet and the relevance to our logo
2/7/20261 min read

The name Elvet dates back to the 9th century, derived from the Old English elfitu, meaning 'swan'. Our logo is more than a symbol of grace and calm; it is a tribute to the ancient heritage of this corner of Durham. At Elvet Dental Practice, we aim to combine this deep sense of local history with a modern, clinical excellence that serves our community today.
Our logo along with the The Swan and Three Cygnets, on Elvet Bridge, are reminders of the historical name given to this part of the city.
